Here on the Seacoast, we are fortunate to be surrounded by many incredible local farms! Not only do they provide fresh produce to our community; they also offer so much more, including on-site farm stands, friendly animals to greet us, CSA programs, corn mazes, and events. The list goes on!

From oyster farms to pick-your-own fruit farms, a local bison farm, and the oldest family-run farm in the country, let’s meet some wonderful local farms on the Seacoast of New Hampshire and Maine!

BUTTERNUT FARM | FARMINGTON, NEW HAMPSHIRE

Located in Farmington, New Hampshire, Butternut Farm has a lot to offer, from apple and berry picking, to an on-site cider house and market! At the cider house, we’ll find hard cider growler fills, fresh baked farm donuts, frozen pies and other products. Pick your own fruit will begin in June for the 2021 season.

DEMERITT HILL FARM | LEE, NEW HAMPSHIRE

At DeMeritt Hill Farm, the Wilson family’s goal is to produce top quality fruit, vegetables, baked goods and other agricultural products. They focus on providing an enjoyable, (hands on) pick-your-own experience for the Seacoast!

The farm is approximately 120 acres, and the apple orchard consists of roughly 20 acres of “pick your own” fruit. There are currently 26 varieties of apples (wow!) with new varieties being planted in the Spring of 2021. The farm is also open for “pick your own” blueberries, peaches, pumpkins and all things fall!

A FEW THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT DEMERITT HILL FARM…

Throughout the farm, there are also about 6 miles of trails that are educationally themed for school tours. These recreational trails are used for a variety of events throughout the year, including senior tours, corporate events, and family reunions, to name a few! 


DeMeritt Hill Farm also plays host to its famous “Haunted Overload” event in October. This internationally known haunted attraction has been ranked the scariest in the country, and has been featured on ABC’s ‘The Great Halloween Fright Fight’.  This one-of-a-kind haunted attraction is sure to amaze you this fall!

EMERY FARM | DURHAM, NEW HAMPSHIRE

Emery Farm in Durham, NH has been operating since 1660 and is the oldest family farm in the country! The family’s connection to the land runs deep, and they are committed to keeping Emery Farm a working farm for generations to come.  

The Market & Cafe at Emery Farm carries local and sustainable goods, as well as its own farm-grown produce. We can enjoy coffees, sandwiches, and more! Visit the Garden Center to browse cut flowers, fall mums, pumpkins, and holiday trees and wreaths. And be sure to say hello to resident goats, chickens, donkeys, and the other friendly farm animals too! Pop over to the family play area and enjoy the sandbox, tractor tires, corn maze and tractor rides (seasonally)!

 In July, Emery Farm’s blueberry bushes are bursting with fruit which makes it the perfect time for a pick your own activity!

FOX POINT OYSTERS | LITTLE BAY & DOVER, NEW HAMPSHIRE

Fox Point Oysters is a local New Hampshire oyster farm located in Little Bay, New Hampshire, which is part of the Great Bay estuary. Fox Point Oysters takes pride in raising healthy, eco-friendly and delicious oysters. Each oyster is hand-selected before delivery to ensure high quality and superior taste!

FRINKLEPOD FARM | ARUNDEL, MAINE

Frinklepod Farm offers a farm store experience in Arundel, Maine that encourages people to be immersed in a working vegetable & flower farm!  Frinklepod’s open-air farm store features all of its own organic produce, as well as products bought in from local growers and makers. Customer favorites include Frinklepod’s line of farm-made popsicles, fresh donuts from Lovebirds Donuts (Kittery) on Saturdays, and an extensive selection of plant-based groceries and treats.

Enjoy the outdoor experience of Frinklepod by picking your own flowers, or just relaxing and eating at one of their picnic tables spread throughout the farm! 

HACKMATACK BUFFALO FARM | BERWICK, MAINE

Hackmatack Buffalo Farm raises all-natural, 100% grass-fed American buffalo/bison at its farm in Berwick, Maine. Connor and the Hackmatack Buffalo Farm team are committed to regenerative land and sustainable business methods that work together to reinvigorate the Seacoast farming culture. They work closely with a group of farmers’ markets, restaurants, and grocers that share their vision to provide nourishing food for our community. All of Hackmatack’s products are hormone free, antibiotic free, and absolutely delicious!

A FEW THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT HACKMATACK BUFFALO FARM…

Hackmatack’s brand new farm store is now open for pick-up and in-person purchases! Doors are open on Wednesdays from 3pm-6pm, and Saturdays from 9am-12am throughout the months of May and June!

HERON POND FARM | SOUTH HAMPTON, NEW HAMPSHIRE

Heron Pond Farm is owned and operated by Greg Balog and Andre Cantelmo—college friends who studied “soil science” in school! Based in South Hampton, New Hampshire, Heron Pond Farm is a four-season farm that grows over 250 varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers year-round. Farming year-round has allowed Greg and Andre to grow and maintain an incredibly skilled and experienced staff, whose passion brings higher yields, quality, and flavor to their produce in every season. Heron Pond Farm’s farm stand is a year-round market that provides seasonal produce grown on the farm, as well as a variety of local products from New England, to create a one-stop-shop for your everyday favorites!

A FEW THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT HERON POND FARM…

If you’re looking to join a CSA, Heron Pond Farm’s summer share starts in early June, and runs for 20 weeks, with pickups every week until mid-October. Their winter share starts in late October, and runs for 22 weeks, with pickups every week until the end of March.

MEADOW’S MIRTH FARM | BRENTWOOD, NEW HAMPSHIRE

Meadow’s Mirth is a small farm in Brentwood, New Hampshire that cultivates a wide variety of field-grown vegetables, flowers, and herbs. Josh and his team’s produce is hand-picked at the peak of ripeness, and is sold fresh at its on-site farm stand, and at local farmers’ markets and Seacoast restaurants. The Meadow’s Mirth team believes deeply in the quality of its work and of the food they produce—the variety, color, taste and nutrition of fresh organic produce is unparalleled. SALTBOX FARM | STRATHAM, NEW HAMPSHIRE

Stratham, New Hampshire’s Saltbox Farm was built in 1725, and its first blueberry bushes were planted on the property in the early 1970’s. Since then, the “pick-your-own” blueberry fields, raspberry fields, and farm stand have been open to the public from early July to early September.

VERNON FAMILY FARM | NEWFIELDS, NEW HAMPSHIRE

Vernon Family Farm is located on 33 conserved acres of land in Newfields, New Hampshire—beautifully nestled along the Piscassic River and Route 87. The Vernon family and its crew love being able to provide an easier way to eating local year-round, while also inviting us to experience life on the farm! The farm store is a one-stop-shop for local food, where they sell a variety of their own nonGMO, pastured chicken, plus a variety of other grass-fed and pastured meats, fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, dairy, sauces, spices, and more. The Vernon’s are grateful that their farm store can make a larger local impact by supporting 40 other local vendors, small businesses, and farms.
